Mobile Healthcare: At the Crossroads of Opportunity
Forum Objectives
Whether an organization currently operates a Mobile Health clinic or is planning to launch a new community mobile outreach program, the Forum curriculum is designed to enhance administrative skills and expand knowledge-base to ensure effective and sustainable Mobile Healthcare services. Healthcare practitioners and administrators will share their insights and invaluable expertise on a broad range of topics reflecting the general theme. The Forum is an extraordinary educational and networking opportunity for mobile health specialists to meet over 200 professional colleagues nationwide that serve in the mobile clinic environment and to develop long-term resources. The Forum promotes knowledge, networking, and leadership ~ integrated to ensure a productive and inspiring experience for attendees in presentation-style sessions and interactive roundtable peer discussions. General and breakout session speakers offer in-depth presentations in dedicated discipline tracks around: mammography, oral healthcare, preventive care, and primary and/or specialty care.

for presentation at the 2010 Annual Mobile Health Clinics Forum
Key Forum Topics To Be Addressed
Sessions are intended for in-depth discussion of selected topics
related to the Forum theme and the general operations of a Mobile Health program.
Speakers are requested to address one specific topic per abstract and reflect on the core concept (general theme) of the Forum, with reference to their program and other community mobile programs nationwide as best-practice examples.
- Assessing community needs: This session will focus on ~ health disparities. Explain how-to identify, measure and describe community health disparities that can be addressed by Mobile Healthcare services.
- Designing a prevention program: This session will focus on ~ prevention. Explain how-to develop prevention initiatives that are relevant to a target community, are appropriate for Mobile Healthcare, and will address the disparities identified in the needs assessment.
- Developing inter-institutional (community) collaborations: This session will focus on ~ community collaboration. Explain how-to identify other community-based organizations that relate to your program’s mission and how to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with these organizations.
- Ensuring a consistent model of service delivery: This session will focus on ~ continuity of care. Explain methods to optimize patient retention, ensure consistent service delivery, how-to create a referral network.
- Meeting the challenges of financial stability: This session will focus on ~ program sustainability. Explain the many challenges of sustaining a mobile program – constantly changing funding opportunities, serving disenfranchised cultures, dealing with government reimbursement regulations, appealing to a broad base of funding resources, fee (or not) for service.
- Creating awareness and building program support: This session will focus on ~ political advocacy and public partnerships. Explain the value and how-to of building program awareness among healthcare policy-makers (federal, state, and local) and building the political will in support of your program.
- Marketing your program to your target populations: This session will focus on – successful outreach to target populations. Explain how-to reach unique populations, understand their varied cultures, foster their trust in the services you have to offer, and develop a reliable service schedule. Also, explain how-to effectively implement your marketing plan to meet your program goals.
- Managing your program for disasters: This session will focus on ~ emergency preparedness & response. Describe pre- and post-disaster assessment and describe how a Mobile Health program can uniquely provide outreach and relief to victims. Reference pre-existing health disparities accentuated by disasters and new disparities created by these same disasters. Address how your program integrates with local, state, and nationwide ER programs.
- Maximizing the use of technology: This session will focus on ~ innovative applications of technology in a mobile health environment. Explain how the use of technology (equipment and/or software) enhances program productivity and outcomes.
- Changing the world with numbers: This session will focus on ~ research and academia. Mobile healthcare looks different from the street, but without data to prove that, it is an opportunity lost. Explain how to work with academic partners on research to capture the impact of non-traditional models of care, such as mobile health clinics, and how they contribute to the health of our communities.
- Other key topics: The Forum will consider other topics compelling to Mobile Healthcare programs that reflect the Forum theme. Organizations are encouraged to submit abstracts that address topics that are particularly relevant to managing a mobile dental clinic, a mobile mammography program, or a mobile program focused on a single medical discipline of service (i.e., diabetes, eye care, or allergy/asthma).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Forum Sessions are 90 minutes and two organizations (with a maximum of two presenters per organization) will present per session (allowing for 15 minutes of Q&A). Important notice: Please carefully review the following, as incomplete submissions will not be considered.
- All of the following documents must be completed and included with your submission:
- Abstract Submission Form – Speaker(s) contact information
- Actual Abstract Form
- Curriculum vitae – for each speaker
- Narrative biography (maximum one page) – for each speaker
- Submission Form: Contact information must be provided for each presenter.
- Abstract Form: No more than two presenters from one organization are allowed per session. Audio-visual equipment to accommodate Power Point presentations and a head table with microphones will be available. Speakers must provide their own laptop.
- Description: All text (between 300 minimum and 500 maximum words) must fit in the box provided on the Abstract Form. Abstracts that exceed 500 words may be either rejected or returned for editing.
- Character font/size: Arial/10 point. Do not bold, italicize, or underline any of the text. Double space between paragraphs; do not indent.
- Abstract must include: A Brief Description (300-500 words) of: 1) your organization’s mobile program and available outcomes data and 2) a discussion of your selected topic (see above). You must also indicate the Learning Objectives (in narrative or outline format).
- Abstracts must be submitted from this website. After entering the required Presenter Information and the Abstract Description and Objectives on the form, click on the Submit Abstract button below the Abstract Form.
Abstract Submission Deadline: May 21, 2010
Speakers are requested to note on the Abstract Submission Form which (one) topic they have selected. Submitted Abstracts will be peer-reviewed for their relevance to the Forum theme and identified topics. Preference will be allowed to MHCN members. Notification of acceptance will be made in June 2010. Accepted Abstracts will be published in the official Forum Program.
Speakers are required to be a member of MHCN and register for the Forum, unless otherwise arranged with MHCN. Special discounted registration fees have been set for speakers: MHCN Member @ $370 per person; if you are not an MHCN member and are selected to speak, you must register as a Non-Member @ $515 per person (this fee includes membership). Honoraria and compensation for travel and housing are not available.
