New Orleans ~ Gulf Coast Update
Dear Mobile Health Care Providers:
We at the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau want to encourage you to visit our exciting city this fall. In the wake of the environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, our hearts go out to our fellow Louisiana citizens on the Gulf Coast affected by this catastrophic event.
The city of New Orleans is located 100 miles inland, and in turn, has avoided physical or environmental damage to our air and water quality. New Orleans tourism officials are constantly monitoring the environmental impact on our wetlands and beautiful marshes that are two hours to our south, bordering the Gulf of Mexico. We want to assure you that all of the vibrant culture and beauty that is the unique hallmark of New Orleans remains unchanged and in some ways, is even better than ever.
Tourism in New Orleans has undergone a resurgence this year as large numbers of visitors and convention-goers have flocked to one of the world's most desired culinary and nightlife destinations. We continue to meet and exceed the expectations of hundreds of thousands of business visitors, leisure travelers and festival-goers. As has long been a New Orleans commitment, our world famous seafood industry continues to support rigorous testing by various strict agencies before our products reach market; and, our renowned chefs ensure that only the highest quality fresh products are prepared and served. In fact, our restaurants and food suppliers work with purveyors locally and nationally to ensure food quality and safety from sea to table.
We are most appreciative of our fellow citizens around the world who are closely watching events unfold along the Gulf Coast. We greatly admire and offer our support for Mobile Health programs that provide unique outreach and relief to those in need. We value that you are trained in emergency preparedness and response; and, much like New Orleans' sophisticated crisis communication plan, when disaster strikes, your programs have the ability to respond immediately.
